Rachel Lagergren is our vineyard co-manager. Rachel is part of the team that ensures we have quality ripe grapes ready for harvest. Work begins in mid-December with pruning until budbreak in the early spring. Through spring and into early fall, she is busy with vine canopy management, monitoring grape development and planning for harvest. All this is under the close eye of her furry 4-legged supervisors, Fergus and Mazie who you will find asleep under the vines.
Work in the vineyard came as a second career for Rachel. With a degree in biology, a career as a systems engineer and after raising her family, she decided that the next step was to work at something out where she lived. After noticing all the new vineyards, she took her first viticulture class at Surry Community College which led to an internship with Stanburn after graduating in 2011. Her experience includes vineyard and winery work in North Carolina and Virginia.
“Developing a healthy productive vineyard is a long game. It takes years to realize the rewards of your work. I enjoy the challenge of each season and the chaos of the vines.”
Thank you for supporting Stanburn Vineyard!
