In February of 2017, the Virginia Wineries Association, in partnership with the Virginia Wine Board and the Virginia Vineyard Association announced the winners of the annual Virginia Governor’s Cup wine competition. Over 40 world-class judges sampled almost 500 wines sent from 102 Virginia wineries.
Stanburn Winery in Stuart, VA entered only four of their dry reds and was awarded four silver medals during this competition. Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin Big A Red, and Barbera all took home silver awards. These wines were all from the 2015 vintage.
Stanburn Winery is a family-owned farm winery which started wine production with the 2009 vintage, after beginning as a commercial vineyard in 1999. The tasting room opened in November of 2010. All the wines from Stanburn Winery are produced and bottled in Patrick County.
