Wine festivals are a huge part of our expansion as a winery. We travel all over the state of Virginia to meet new people and convince them to try our wine. We travel to a wine festival every month of the year now, along with hosting one festival per month from May through August at our place. We actually LOVE festivals. We meet some of the nicest people while we are out, and have so much fun connecting with them. In fact, we have several people now who help us at festivals that we met while they were attending one.
And when we say we travel all over Virginia, we aren’t just saying that. You can find us everywhere from Abingdon to Virginia Beach to Winchester. We have learned so much about towns and cities in our state that we barely knew before these festivals. Of course, the bigger areas host the biggest festivals that we attend. We now do three festivals in the Richmond area, two in the Northern Virginia area, and seven in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area. It still surprises us when we are in a big area and people come up who know us! Or call and order wine that we ship across the state.
Honestly, it is humbling to think about people in these large market areas liking wine that is grown, harvested, fermented, aged, and bottled from this little family winery in southwest Virginia! There are over 260 wineries in Virginia now, and people choose our wine and have us ship it to them because we don’t have a store in their area. That blows our minds! And if it weren’t for these festivals, we may not have had the chance to ever meet them.
